south london and maudsley recovery college

Ldn Dares has a special relationship with the South London and Maudsley NHS Recovery College. We are currently delivering our Dare Session workshops for the students, more specifically with the LGBTQIA+ community.

The College supports people with mental health issues to ensure they have the same opportunities as everyone else in life. The workshops and tools they invest in provide the platforms to make this happen. They work with the principles of co-production where people with a lived experience of mental health issues facilitate training along with clinicians, therefore Ldn Dares has been a natural fit.

The school FOR social ENTREPRENEURS

Ldn Dares was given a place on the highly competitive programme at the London School for Social Entrepreneurs, having been selected by the school and Guys and St Thomas Charity as a social enterprises having one of the greatest impacts in Lambeth and Southwark.

Ldn Dares has been identified as a well-established organisation that is improving the health and wellbeing of people in the area, with the potential to make even more positive difference.

The programme is being run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs, a charity that supports select number of organisations on a highly coverted programme to develop the skills, strengths and networks they need to tackle society’s biggest problems. It is funded by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, an independent, urban health foundation. It works with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and others to improve health in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, and beyond.

Alastair Wilson, CEO of the School for Social Entrepreneurs, said: “Being awarded the place on the Health and Well-being Trade Up Programme marks out as a leader with the potential to take this organisation’s impact to the next level. We are delighted to be supporting them on the journey to improving the health of people living in Lambeth and Southwark.

GUY’S & ST THOMAS CHARITY

Matt Towner, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Portfolio Manager, said: “At Guy’s and St Thomas’ we aim to work with a wide range of partners across different sectors. With the School for Social Entrepreneurs we were keen to find fantastic social enterprises from our boroughs that supported the health and wellbeing of local residents. We also wanted to trial the Health and Wellbeing Trade Up Programme which offers a range of support including a Match Trading grant that matches every £1 of additional income from trading. Through this, we hope to support the sustainability of the Ldn Dares entrepreneurs as they grow. We think the School of Social Entrepreneurs has found some great enterprises that will help tackle childhood obesity and protect the health of those living with 1-2 long-term conditions”.

HEALTH INNOVATION NETWORK

The Health Innovation Network (HIN) is the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) for South London, one of 15 AHSNs across England. Their role is identifying and spreading healthcare innovation at pace and at scale; driving the adoption and spread of innovative ideas and technologies across large populations. Health Education England exists to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement by ensuring that the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place.

“We provided Ldn Dares with grant funding to implement it’s LGBTQIA+ programme. We were absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to support this fantastic initiative, and to award funding to allow real-world validation of a project that has the very real potential to have a huge impact on the health and care landscape in South London. It is an excellent, innovative project that supports a group of people with high-mental health needs and does so in a fun and a different way.”
